Setting Up Your Solo Agent IDX Website
The thirteen-step setup wizard for a single-agent website, in order, with what each step decides.
Before you start
You can begin without any of this and fill it in later, but having it to hand turns the wizard into a single sitting rather than three.
- Your licence details and public contact information — shown on your public profile and in the site footer.
- A decision about your web address — a free RealtySlate address, a domain you already own, or a new one to buy. See Choosing Your Web Address.
- Sign-in for your DNS provider — only if you are connecting a domain you already own.
- Your MLS membership details — support uses these to request your IDX feed.
- A headshot and a short biography for your public profile.
Do not wait for your MLS
Property search does not switch on when your website launches. It switches on when your MLS approves the feed and any access fee is paid, which is outside RealtySlate's control and commonly takes days to weeks. Your site can launch, take inquiries and be indexed by search engines the whole time. Launch first, connect listings second.
The thirteen steps
Each step saves as you go, and you can leave and come back — the website dashboard offers Continue Setup, which drops you back at the exact step you stopped at. You cannot skip ahead to a step you have not reached; the wizard quietly returns you to the furthest step you actually completed.
1. Purpose
Give the website an internal name — your own name usually works best — and choose Individual agent website. A green panel confirms IDX capability is included and no separate website subscription is required.
2. Scope
Choose Specific agent and pick yourself. This sets two things at once: who appears publicly as the owner of the site, and where inquiries are routed. On a solo account both answers are you.
3. Domain
The step worth slowing down for, and the one that is most disruptive to change later. Four options are offered and the wizard shows only the fields relevant to the one you pick. This is covered in full in Choosing Your Web Address.
4. Template
Designs are grouped into IDX Available and No IDX Needed. Because your product is an IDX website, choose from IDX Available. Nothing here is permanent — colours, logo, pages, images and wording all stay editable after provisioning, so pick the closest layout and move on. This is the step most likely to stall an otherwise quick setup.
5. Company information
Nothing is entered here. The page shows the values already held in your settings so you can catch anything wrong before it is published. Only approved public fields are ever copied to the website.
6. Selected agent
A confirmation of the choice you made at step 2. If it names the wrong person, go back to step 2.
7. Public profile
On a brokerage site this is a list of people to tick. On yours there is exactly one profile, so it is a confirmation. Passwords, private notes, permissions and billing data are never copied to the public site.
8. Lead routing
A green panel confirms every website inquiry becomes a lead assigned to you. On this plan that is fixed — there is nothing to choose and nothing that can misroute your leads. You can still have an assistant notified about each lead without it being reassigned.
9. IDX and MLS
Confirms your website is IDX-capable and supports eligible RETS and RESO Web API feeds. Read the wording carefully: you can finish and launch while the feed is pending, and property search turns on only after your MLS approves it. Follow the support link now, in a second tab, so the request is in the queue while you finish.
10. Review
Every choice on one screen. Check the domain line hardest — it is where a typo is easiest to miss and hardest to undo.
11. Provision
Selecting Start Provisioning is where RealtySlate begins building: hosting, your chosen design, database and scheduled tasks, DNS verification, the SSL certificate and health checks. This takes several minutes rather than seconds, and DNS and certificate issuance can add longer. You can leave and come back.
If you are connecting a domain you already own, this is when the A record value finally appears. Until you add it at your DNS provider, the site waits on DNS and HTTPS.
12. Preview
Once hosting, HTTPS, the connection and health checks are ready, Open Website Preview shows the real site at its real address. Look at it on a phone as well as a desktop, and click through every page.
13. Launch
Publishing makes the verified HTTPS address your production website. Launching does not depend on your MLS feed — listings appear later, without another launch.
After launch
- Chase your MLS feed. Until it is approved, IDX & Listings will say there is no active feed. That is a status, not an error. See IDX and MLS Approval.
- Learn Website Leads while it is empty. Easier than learning it while a first inquiry goes cold.
- Add an assistant if you want help with the website and follow-up.
- Turn on Property Search Registration once listings are live, so browsing turns into leads. See Capturing Leads From Property Search.
What a finished setup looks like
- Your website dashboard shows a real address and a live status.
- HTTPS is issued and the site loads without a warning.
- Your public profile shows your name, photograph and contact details correctly.
- A test enquiry through your own contact form appears in Website Leads.
- Your MLS feed request is lodged with support, approved or not.
That last one is the step most often left undone, because the website looks finished without it.
